The 10 Best State of Decay 2 Base Locations and Why They're Great
Sorting bases in State of Decay 2 is not an easy task, as each map in the game has unique demands in terms of strategies that you must adjust. This means that the base that might suit your community management style could be anywhere on this list, but make it clear that this item respects each player's style.
Have you decided to choose your new base yet? Or have you already chosen one and are not sure of your decision? This list will help you decide which foundation is worth your money and effort.
You can see the strong emphasis on playing at a higher level and that's just because... that's where the real fun lies. While its main substance is to show you the strengths of foundations, as you go through this list there will be some helpful advice and tips that may surprise you.
No more preambles! Let's jump right into the top 10 bases you should consider owning and why they're great for your survivors.
10. Campo Whitney(Best for long term communities)
Known for being the largest base in Meagher Valley, located at the southern end of the map, Whitney Field offers community sustainability that you want to maintain for long days in the game. Would you like to stay more than 35 days in the game? This foundation is for you. Not only does it have huge customization features, but it is also a base for earning money that is good for the later part of the game.
What makes Whitney Field great?
- 3 large and 5 small open slots are great for your economic, character-enhancing and morale-boosting facilities.
- Proximity to buildings with plenty of loot.
- Ability to repeatedly summon siege via "Speaker's Box" which rewards 200 influence per siege
While Whitney Field is one of the best bases in Meagher Valley, keep in mind that this also requires 3500 influence (priced on death difficulty) and 8 survivors to occupy, which is hard to find early in the game. Also, on mortal difficulty, this base is not for wimpy survivors, as daily security is a concern. The base doesn't offer the best defense that other massive bases have, which is only a downside, but it can be countered with some clever setup.
Behold here! Things will certainly pay off when you successfully acquire this foundation. Whitney Field is so close to loot-rich areas that you can practically walk back and forth to your base and buildings to grab backpacks and important items. Also, frequent zombie taunts return tons of cash that you can spend to buy expensive stuff from mysterious wandering merchants and rare skills.
Management advice and complaints
To reach this base you just need to set your direction on the map UI and follow the arrow on the compass as Meagher Valley is not so obstructed that you can travel from point A to point B without following the road. Although the rule of thumb on all maps is "beware of sleeping fans!". Don't rely too heavily on running in Meagher Valley, especially on higher difficulty, as the blood plague guys have been known to take survivors by surprise due to player complacency and arrogance.
9. Rusty Rosie's(best location)
Also known as the Fortified Truck Stop, Rusty Rosie's, which can be found in Hobson Falls on Providence Ridge, is only marginally better than Western Builder Supply (another base on the same map) in the medium base category for reasons we'll discuss later. little . This base located in the northern part of the map offers easy access to the rest of the important areas of Providence Ridge.
- What makes Rusty Rosie great?
- Rusty Rosie's has quick access to loot-rich and often sought-after areas across the river.
- Huge fuel depot with capacity for over 100
- Multifunctional kitchen that offers the ability to create alcoholic beverages for additional income or to boost morale.
- Shooting Skills Booster
Listen to this guys! You don't have to follow the road to serve your purpose, as in State of Decay 2, rivers and all bodies of water can be traversed by a car like a normal drivable surface. It is worth noting that Providence Ridge is the most difficult map to play due to the large number of obstacles in the mountains, extreme slopes, switchbacks, long trips to unexpected dead ends, so the proximity to the river is a huge relief, especially when rushing to do the missions. For veteran players, driving may be less of an issue, but for less experienced players, shortcuts are life!
Only minor downside of Rusty Rosie's over its competitor, it's not as customizable due to its built-in structures like the kitchen and watchtower, and that was the main reason why most didn't like this base at all, at least before of new updates. Since the new game update has improved the perks of cooking skills that have improved cooking and nutrition specializations, having a kitchen is a must. Also, if you've allied with the Booze Enclaves or a community member with bartending skills, crafting moonshine (alcoholic drink) in the kitchen gives you an extra amount that you can use to sell or throw a party to boost morale. Now, the watchtower that most say is unnecessary may change your mind, as the one present in this base can be upgraded to double as additional fuel storage, which is very useful if you plan to stock up on fuel for your stations. advanced electricity and water systems that consume a lot of fuel. for daily maintenance.
Management advice and complaints
The main thing to remember to get to Rosie's stop is to "turn right" when leaving home base. Don't forget the golden rule of bumping into fans, as the path leading to this base has notorious curves and slopes and you might be surprised by one or a few. This base may be under the influence of the plague heart, so use the nearby checkpoint and explore the area first.
8. Dawn Red Talon FOB(Agent's Free Red Claw)
If you're new to SOD2 make sure you have the latest game update or you'll miss out on this feature because, yes, you read this, type Red Talon Agent free only in Trumbull Valley! This abandoned Red Talon base located in the northwest part of the map also has Red Talon facilities that cannot be obtained unless you play Daybreak for rewards.
What makes Red Talon Daybreak FOB great?
- Free Agent Red Talon Demolition Specialist during the workshop mission via former Red Agent Talon Chavez.
- Integrated Red Talon facilities to further improve the lives of your survivors without spending "prestige" (Red Talon currency from Daybreak mode)
- Super defensible.
The Red Talon Operator/Soldier costs 2750 Prestige, which is expensive and can take an hour or more to play Daybreak if you're new to the game. So getting it for free and knowing how superior these characters are, especially in combat, is really worth it. Just start the quest to fix the workshop as soon as you move to the base to immediately acquire new talents in your community.
You can also take advantage of the built-in Red Talon Officers HQ, which is a dream for all SOD2 players due to its excellent features. The watchtower can prevent zeds from reaching your base and minimize zed threats, plus the only two entrances keep out zeds and freaks. Other Red Talon facilities built into this base are waiting for you to discover and maximize their use, especially the CLEO Relay.
A small downside to this base is the lack of customization due to only having one large and one small slot open. The main problem here is the lack of space for other vital facilities, as you will be fighting over which of the two open spaces will be your clinic/hospital or garden/hydroponics/farm. So it's best to keep your population small (around 6-7) until you've looted the area clean. This base is also away from most of the map area being on the edge, so move on to a larger or more customizable base once this base serves your purpose.
Management advice and complaints
Getting into Red Talon Daybreak FOB from your home base is not a challenge as you can get there easily by following the map UI. The question is, are you ready to free this base from the plague's territory? This area called Fairfield is typically under the influence of 2-3 Plague Hearts clustered in a kill zone level that covers the entire neighborhood. Check your map for checkpoints and locate the plague hearts first, as this area has so much wreckage that could trap your survivor. The plague zombie hordes here are incredible and will always spot you even if you are stealthy. The Screamers here can call the hordes in Fairfield, so watch out for them. It is highly recommended that you bring a vial of plague cure or, better, place an outpost near this base (ideally the pig and bovine) during a claim attempt so that you can immediately evacuate in critical situations.
7. Pterodáctilo Ptark(Best in awards and customization)
So, you're in Trumbull Valley and you can't stand the super confined space in your home base. You already have your fourth survivor and can't wait to get out. What are you waiting for? Gear up and head to the Middle East part of the map, eliminate the plague heart and head to the 4 man base called Pterodactyl Ptark.
What makes Pterodactyl Ptark great?
- Cheap!
- Total 5 small and 1 large open slots
- Accessible to major loot areas and shorter travel to any part of the map
Priced at just 500 and only requiring four people, this is an absolute steal. With extra diligence in collecting backpacks of materials, you can build your shelter on that foundation to efficiently manage your community. It is advisable to have a survivor with utility skills who specializes in plumbing to build 2-3 hydroponics here to avoid starvation. Your plumber also amplifies the morale benefit of the latrine by keeping your survivors mentally and emotionally stable.
Since you are close to everywhere, you can join settlement quests quickly. However, keep in mind that you need to upgrade your command center at the start of the game (up to the maximum if already applicable) to increase your Influence gains on each completed mission.
Management advice and complaints
You'll be driving across an open field heading to this location, so just watch your way. There are usually 1-2 Plague Hearts covering this area, and since it's not as crowded as Fairfield, you can quickly drive around to see where these Plague Hearts are. If you don't already know, you can hire an enclave for 100 influence to help you clear the plague heart, but make sure the one you recruit isn't the one you might want to recruit in the future (because they might die here too. You choose carefully. That said, never recruit a member of your community as your follower (this applies to almost all higher difficulty situations), as they could die right before your eyes. Once the plague territory is gone, you can take over this base very easily.
6. Prescott Fire Department(Best for beginners)
The magnificent Prescott Fire Station, located in the southwest part of Providence Ridge, is a huge base that every beginner should have.
What makes the Prescott Fire Station great?
- Indoor utility facility providing water and electricity.
- Integrated Workshop Level 3
- reduced zombie threat
There's some debate that Lundegaard Lumber Mill is better than this, but we're talking about the ease of establishing builder legacy here, folks. Having 2 utilities crammed into a small slot in the building is much more efficient than putting 2 outposts or 2 power slots and supplying water at your base. So if you're in a rush to beat the game to get the builder's legacy of free water and electricity on your next playthrough, you can do so here. Also, the other built-in facilities are very beneficial, especially if you have the right group of community members. Imagine that the latrine and kitchen are noiseless and the watchtower reduces the threat of zombies, you don't have to worry about mass siege.
On your next playthrough, if you decide to do it again in Providence Ridge, you'll likely use Builder Boon, which will gradually remove highlights from this base, making it great for single use, unless you've taken a liking to this base.
Management advice and complaints
If you're coming from Rusty Rosie's, use the river to get there fast. There is a land shortcut should you decide not to use the highway if coming from a Western Builder base, but it takes trial and error to get familiar with it.
Due to the frequency of quests you've likely had in this area, the plague hearts that cover Prescott have now been revealed. If you haven't already, use research points. It's very important that you don't get stuck in the middle of the street, as this area is twice the size of Fairfield and almost as deadly as Marshall (also from Trumbull Valley). The plague zombie hordes here are annoying. Bring arsonists...lots of them!
5. Mike's Concrete(The best in localization and customization)
This base is in the best location on this rocky and obstacle rich map. Its location is the best for fast fueling by road. Drucker County lacks shortcuts, so you'll be glued to the road most of the time, making Mike's Concrete a great choice.
What makes Mike's Concrete great?
- Location
- Built-in generator, workshop and fuel storage
- open spaces
As already mentioned, Drucker County is the least favorite map, but if you dare to play here, this is your ideal medium-sized base, which is why Mike's Concrete hit this range. This area also has 1-2 enclave neighbors that are so close that trading and other enclave-related shenanigans are easy. Responding to missions and critical supplies is also relatively quick in this location.
If you haven't yet established a legacy business that gives you an instant 4,000 influence at the start, jumping to the biggest base isn't your most viable plan and with the presence of very essential in-house facilities here, you'll save tons of money and resources sooner. to move to the larger base if you wish. Also, the opportunity to customize the base to your survivor's needs, despite the presence of built-in facilities, is a bonus.
Management advice and complaints
You don't need complex scouting to locate the plague hearts that influence this base, and just by staying on the path, you can easily get here. If the area already has neighboring enclaves, it will be easy for you to run to safety at your base or get reinforcements. But your fight is likely to be to get this base out of plague territory and you can get it with less effort.
4. Shopping barricado(Best for long term communities)
Drucker County might be our least favorite map, but if you want a taste of luxury in a post-apocalyptic world, this is your home base. Zombie outbreak? Run to the mall!
Located in the northern part of the map, a little weird for the position, but hey, it's the last part of the game, wouldn't you want to spend a few more days in the game to get rich and maybe solidify your legacy group?
What makes barricaded mall great?
- Essential integrated facilities
- Maximized use of community members' skills
- 3 big open slots
- morale boosters
With an integrated clinic, latrine and kitchen on level 3, all you have to worry about is choosing the right one for your community members. I'm glad that the new update increases the benefits of having a cook as a cooking and/or nutrition specialist for crafting and morale. Get a member with plumbing skills for your hydroponics and outhouse and your survivors will never feel deprived again (especially in the kill zone). One of the three large slots can be a farm for your farmer and you can even have a herbalist or lichenologist (the latter is preferable) for a small garden/hydroponics for your medicine income.
If you don't already have the builder's blessing, the only small open space outside can be turned into a still (provides water) which is suitable for a member with bartending skills who can also cook. If nutrition and cooking skills aren't a high priority for you, look for a bartender who can usually be recruited through Booze Enclaves. With a bartender, you maximize the profit of the distillery that also produces liquor and ethanol to keep its economy running.
Many will snub the presence of a taekwondo facility here, but hey, that's an extra 20 HP and greater fighting experience for you, plus the ability to upgrade your cardio skills with a military leader. This is very important if you want to increase your recruitment to refine your community members for a strong legacy.
3. Strong vessel(Best for defense and customization)
In one of the most played maps in the game, having Container Fort is mandatory. Located in the southwest part of Cascade Hills, this larger base is a sigh of relief for players who like defense and management.
What makes Container Fort great?
- easy to defend
- Many open positions
- Built-in workshop and barracks, plus a passive buff that places 4 guards that don't need watchtower setup
- Proximity to material backpacks and tool-rich buildings
This base is monster-proof! You heard it right folks. With only 2 small entrances, the pitchers just couldn't get into this fort, so your survivors (especially those equipped with .50 cal) can kill the pitchers like peanuts. In addition, the passive bonus called "Castle Doctrine" puts 4 survivors on guard, causing a -2 zombie threat. Note that while guards are on duty shooting zombies outside, they are also increasing their shooting skills, making them more efficient for both defense and offense.
Some players even place cars to block the entrances leaving only one point undefended, which is the fence next to the fort. Go crazy for killing the undead bastards!
Open slots are technically not many compared to other large bases, but keep in mind that you don't need to build barracks here anymore, as the fort already provides 8 beds automatically, so you just have to think about taking advantage of the slots. .open to other beneficial installations. .
The only flaw most would agree this base has is its location. It's a long way from the rest of the map and the narrow, busy roads to and from this base are a fan favorite, so make sure you don't bump into them, especially in the kill zone. Overall this foundation is great!
Management advice and complaints
The road network in Cascade Hills is a bit confusing. The safest way to reach the Container Fort is to leave the road and go through the west side gate after crossing the bridge. There may be clustered Plague Hearts covering this base and you may want to search the area first via the nearby cell tower before bidding to clear this territory. Driving in this neighborhood is a nightmare, and you'll often find yourself circling the area looking for alternative routes; therefore, park your car not near the center of the target pest to facilitate evacuation.
2. Squelones Brewing Company(Best for location and earning money)
Meagher Valley, the map for beginners and tycoons. Wow, if you're a beginner looking to strike it rich before venturing into the hard part of State of Decay 2, this foundation is for you. Squelones Brewing Company, located near the center of the map, is the best home base for several reasons.
What makes Squelones Brewing Company great?
- Brewing that makes tons of money.
- built-in water fountain
- Accessibility to anywhere on the map
- Culture of Plague Samples for Most Plague Cures
This base has 2 brewery stills that brew beers and if you have the allied Bartender or Beverage Enclaves you will get the tasty Growler of Barley Wine which usually sells for a lot of money compared to the regular still. Keep in mind that Booze Enclaves and Bartenders are not always available (or slow to appear) in the game, so if you want to increase your economy using this base, select a starting Survivor with Bartender skills.
Now that you have the maximum brewing buff, make sure you have at least one farmer and one trade leader to set up Farm 3 and the trade depot. Mass produce and feel like Pablo Escobar. Since you have easy access everywhere and driving doesn't require you to stay on the road, go door to door to your neighbors' enclaves like a Girl Scout selling cookies and selling your wares. Make sure you have plenty of cash or craft drinks from Friday to Sunday, as those are the days of the week when mysterious wandering merchants and rare-skill merchants show up and you can clear your inventory like a boss.
As for growing pest samples, be prepared that their mass production resulted in so much noise that all the zombies in the backyard visit frequently. This base isn't that hard to defend, but don't get too comfortable as frequent sieges can cost your survivor their life, so always be prepared and make sure you have a resident pathologist to increase your clinic's buff and decrease the plague infection. Each victory against zeds, especially red ones, gives you plague samples that you can convert into a bulk plague cure that sells for 500 each. Truly, this foundation is bound to make money.
Management advice and complaints
There is no challenge to go here. Just follow the map UI and maybe hire an enclave to help you out. There is also a chance of not being covered by the plague heart even in the kill zone. Just be careful not to draw the attention of the open field zeds when claiming this base, as they will be overrun with them in no time.
1. Agricultural Complex(Best for placement, customization, and defense)
We have become the envy of every base in the game! Farmland Compound, located in the center of the map and with easy access to anywhere. With Trumbull Valley being the newest addition to the game and arguably the most exciting and most played map to date, Farmland Compound is just about the ultimate base that everyone wants to have.
What makes Farmland Compound great?
- The location is in the middle of the map with no obstacles to get in and out of the area.
- Many open positions
- Clinic 3 and built-in shack
- easy to defend
This foundation is so amazing in every category that's why it's on top of the rankings. It may seem far from the neighborhoods, but the area's openness allows you to answer calls immediately and get your supplies up and running quickly. The integrated facilities here are the most significant, especially the exclusive bunkhouse that accommodates 6 beds. Fill it with a level room and you have a total of 8 beds. Your community of 8 will never go without sleep again!
You may have doubts whether this base is really easy to defend, but the answer is not in its physical appearance, but in how the members behave during the siege. Everyone gathers in the center of the base where the action takes place, and if they have the right equipment, you'll even hear them asking for more. Place a sniper turret in front of the builder leader at the big midpoint and you can stand on Al Pacino's barn-like shooting platform without even firing your gun as you watch your survivors slaughter the zeds.
Some would comment that this base is expensive, as it's the only large base that costs 3500 influence, which is a mystery we need to clear up for the developers, but this is hands down the best investment you can make for a base.
Management advice and complaints
Going here is like walking in the park and often you just have to deal with two plague hearts that aren't grouped together and that you can kill just by going back and forth using only heavy weapons if you don't have explosives. or other stronger weapons. Almost all base acquisition tips have been discussed in previous entries and you just have to choose your approach on how to free a certain territory from the heart of the plague.
Here it is! State of Decay 2's top 10 bases and why they're worth having. Whether you're new to the game or playing the Kill Zone for the first time, you can always bring in a friend via co-op to help you claim your wish base.
If your preferred foundation is not mentioned here, please let us know why it should be on this list. At the end of the day, we all have our own approach to the game and the important thing is that we all have fun.
