Oculus Quest 2 Link Keeps Disconnecting From PC (15 Fixes) | smart glasses hub (1)

What to do if you're trying to use your Oculus Quest 2 as a PC VR headset via Oculus Link, but it keeps disconnecting for no apparent reason? Unfortunately, since the problem is quite widespread, I took the time to do some research and list the steps you can take to resolve the issue.

How to fix Oculus Quest 2 not working

How to fix Oculus Quest 2 won't stream to phone

The most common reason Oculus Link keeps disconnecting with Quest 2 is a low powered USB port on your PC (try other ports, use a powered USB hub). Bad cable, USB selective suspend, and various driver related issues are also known to cause the connection issue..

Next, let's look at possible steps you can take to resolve the issues you're having.

1) Try a different USB cable

One of the simplest things you can do to narrow down the possible cause of your connection problems isTry an alternate USB cable to establish the Oculus Link connection.

Most of us have a spare USB cable somewhere in the house. Don't worry about the cable specs/performance, the goal here is just to test if the connection issues persist or not. So if the cable fits your Quest 2 and the available ports on your PC, just give it a try.

If you don't have a spare cable, I've listed a fewcheap Oculus Link cable alternativesin my previous article.

2) Update USB Driver

Another thing that is always worth doing (because it's so easy) is to update the USB drivers on your PC. The easiest way to do it:

  1. On the Windows taskbar, click Start.
  2. Start typing "Device Manager" and open the app
  3. Expand "Universal Service Bus Controllers"
  4. For each driver, right-click and choose Update Driver.

Dienext articledescribes the process and alternative methods for updating USB drivers in more detail.

3) Disable USB power saving feature

Another possible cause of Oculus Link disconnecting is when Windows unexpectedly cuts power to USB ports. You can disable the USB power saving feature as follows:

  1. Open Windows "Device Manager"
  2. Expand "Universal Service Bus Controllers"
  3. Right click on a driver and select "Properties"
  4. Open the Power Management tab.
  5. Disable the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" option.
  6. Repeat the process for all USB controllers

Use!Some USB controllers do not have an option to disable the feature. Disable it for all controllers that have the option.

4) Disable USB selective suspend

The Windows operating system has an optimization feature called "USB Selective Suspend" that automatically puts USB ports into a low power mode. However, for the Oculus Link we need maximum power output at all times.

For this reason, it's almost always a good idea to disable "USB Selective Suspend" when using Oculus Link. To disable the feature:

  1. Open the Windows Control Panel
  2. Select "Hardware and Sound"
  3. Under "Power Options" select "Edit Power Plan"
  4. Click "Change advanced power settings"
  5. Expand "USB Settings"
  6. Disable "USB Selective Suspend Settings"

5) Try a different USB port

Another safe thing to try if you encounter connection issues with Oculus Link is thisTest all USB ports on your PC/Laptop.In a PC setup, you should generally prefer USB ports that plug directly into the motherboard (usually on the back of the PC case).

(Video) A FIX for Oculus Quest 2 Link stutter/lag 2021 (((((READ PINNED/DESC)))))

The ones on the front are usually connected to the motherboard with thin cable connections, which often reduces the maximum performance and stability of the USB connection.

If you have both USB-A and USB-C ports on your PC/laptop, be sure to test the connection with both. This was a common finding when researching this topic.Using USB-A ports often works better than USB-C ports. If possible, try both scenarios yourself.

6) Upgrade/downgrade graphics driver

99% of the time you want the latest graphics card drivers installed when using the Oculus Link. So if you're currently experiencing disconnections when using the Oculus Link connection,Make sure your GPU drivers are up to date.

Please note, however, that certain driver versions have caused problems with AMD and NVidia graphics cards. If you recently updated your GPU drivers and started having problems afterwards, it might be a good idea to roll back the drivers to the previous version.

7) Disable in-game overlay Nvidia GeForce Experience

If you are using an Nvidia graphics card with Geforce Experience installed, please disable the in-game overlay option. This has caused manyunexpected delay, black screen, and also connection problems when using it with Oculus Link.

To disable the feature, open Geforce Experience, click the “Settings” gear option and toggle the “In-game overlay” option to “disabled”.

8) Disable Integrated GPU for Laptops

If you're using a laptop for an Oculus Link connection with your Quest 2, there's one more step you can try.Disable integrated graphics card.

In theory, your laptop should automatically prefer and use the dedicated graphics card (unless otherwise configured). Actually, there are cases where the integrated graphics card somehow kicks in and causes various issues (including Oculus Link disconnections)

While this is more of a workaround than a permanent solution, it can help you pinpoint the problem and go from there.

9) Increase the priority of the OVRServer_x64.exe process

OVRServer_x64.exe is a Windows process that starts when you install and run the Oculus software. Numerous people have fixed various Oculus Link stuttering and lagging issues by setting the OVRServer_x64.exe process priority higher than Normal.

Some people have said it tooIncreasing the priority of the OVRServer_x64.exe process helped with Oculus Link disconnection issues.Since it's so easy to do from Windows Task Manager, give it a try! If you're not sure how to do this, watch the video below for instructions.

10) Consider purchasing a powered USB 3.0 hub

Problems with the Oculus Link disconnecting often seem to be related to a USB port that is too weak. Oculus Link is quite demanding in this regard, requiring a stable connection with optimal performance at all times.

If you've tried all the USB ports on your PC and still have connection issues, consider purchasing a USB portSelf-powered USB 3.0 hub. These handy little gadgets keep the Oculus Link connection to your PC stable and at a great throughput rate, and have also solved many people's disconnection and crash issues.

When choosing a particular product, essentially any USB hub will work, just make sure it's powered and the ports on the hub suit your personal needs (and the cable you have available).

11) Let the battery discharge

This may seem like a strange recommendation, but I want you to try the following as well- Drain your Oculus Quest 2 battery to approximately 50% before plugging in the Oculus Link cableto possibly solve the separation problems.

While researching this topic, I came across many examples where people were facing disconnections and Oculus Link crashes when the battery level exceeded 90%. These issues did not occur when the battery level was below 80-90%.

It's hard to say why some people experience disconnection issues with a fully charged battery. Since it's relatively easy to test, I drained the battery a bit. If it solves your problem, at least you have a solution for your disconnection problem.

12) Oculus-Softwarereparatur

If you encounter crashing/disconnecting issues with the Oculus Link, you can also try the "Repair" feature of the Oculus app.

  1. download theOculus Settingsexecutable
  2. Run and select "Repair".
  3. Run the repair process, download and install it.
  4. Restart the Oculus app

Oculus Support recommended completing the "Repair" process, so give it a try. If it didn't help your problem, continue to the next slightly related step.

13) Manually reinstalling the Oculus software

If Oculus repair isn't giving you the results you want, you might want to try aclean reinstall of oculus software. Just follow these steps:

  1. Disconnect your PC from the Internet
  2. make a backupinstalling your Oculus software
  3. Start your PC in safe mode
  4. Uninstall Oculus Software from Control Panel
  5. Remove all Oculus folders from C:Programs
  6. Delete the Oculus folder from:
    • C:UsersYourUserProfileAppData
    • C:UsuariosTuPerfilDeUsuarioAppDataLocal
    • C:UsuariosTuPerfilDeUsuarioAppDataLocalLow
    • C:UsuariosTuPerfilDeUsuarioAplicaciónDatosRoaming
    • C:OculusSetup-DownloadCache
  7. Reboot your PC and boot into normal mode
  8. Descargarand reinstall the Oculus software

After reinstalling the Oculus software, restart your Oculus Link connection and check if the issues are now resolved.

If you've tried all the steps listed in the article and nothing seems to help, please contact Oculus Support andCreate a support ticket.

Be sure to include a detailed list of all the steps you have already taken to resolve the issue yourself. It's more,Collect logs related to Oculus software and attach them to support ticket:

  • Open the Run window (Windows key + R)
  • Run C:Program FilesOculusSupportoculus-diagnosticsOculusLogGatherer.exe
  • Select "Full Records"
  • Select 1 day from the Get most recent dropdown list.
  • Wait for the log collection to finish.
  • Get the desktop log ".zip" file

If you're more tech-savvy, you might want to take a look at the logs yourself. However, they are most useful to the Oculus support team, who can rely on the information to narrow down the cause of your problem.

15) Try Oculus Air Link instead

If you can't get to the bottom of the Oculus Link connection issues, try the Air Link wireless connection instead. If you tried it and it didn't work well for you, be sure to read my previous article onhow to set up and optimize your Air Link connection.
